Getting started

How do I create an account?

Enter your name and email, then open your verification email. Choose your password there to finish creating your account and open your workspace. You only choose your password once.

The email has not arrived. What can I do?

Check spam or junk first, and confirm the address you entered. Use Resend verification on the sign-in screen to request another email. Open the newest link; a completed or expired link cannot be reused.

How do I reset my password?

Choose Forgot password on the sign-in screen. Open the reset email and choose a new password. Changing your password ends your existing sessions, so you may need to sign in again on other devices.

Adding a recording

Which files can I upload?

Use an MP4, MOV or WebM video from a recording you own or have permission to process. The upload form shows the current file-size, recording-length and project-retention limits. Start with clear speech for useful AI suggestions.

Can I paste a link?

When link import is available in your workspace, follow the supported-link guidance in the import form. A direct HTTPS video-file link and a video-platform page are different things; a page link is not automatically supported. If a link is unsupported, upload a copy you have permission to use.

Why did my upload or import fail?

Check the message on the project. File size, recording length, source availability and interrupted connections can all affect an import. Use the retry or upload-recovery option shown for that project before starting a duplicate upload.

Finding and editing your clips

How can I get better suggestions?

Describe the moments you want in plain language and choose the clip-length range. Review the suggested clips in context: AI can miss meaning, names or the point of a story. A shorter list can be the right result when the recording has fewer strong matches.

Can I find more clips from the same recording?

Yes. Choose Find more clips on your project. It searches the saved recording and transcript for new moments, skips your existing clips and keeps their edits and downloads intact. No extra processing minutes are used. Each recording allows up to three repeat searches, including discovery retries.

What if no clips were suggested?

Use Retry finding clips when available, or choose your own passage from the saved original. You do not need to upload the recording again. The search keeps complete moments within your chosen clip lengths; it does not guarantee a fixed number of clips.

Can I change framing during a clip?

Yes. Open Reframe in the editor. Use the large source view to position your crop and the smaller preview to check the output. Add or select a crop section to change that part of the clip, including single and split layouts. The timeline shows where each section applies.

Can I keep working after a reload?

The editor keeps unfinished changes in this browser when storage is available. After a reload, choose Resume last edit to continue. Undo and Redo step through changes during your editing session. Create video saves the edit to your account and prepares a finished video to download.

Can I correct captions or change their look?

Yes. Edit the caption text and choose its appearance in the editor. Save a caption style to reuse it in other clips. Always check names and wording before you download the finished video.

Exports and usage

How do I get my finished video?

Choose Create video in the editor. When that version finishes, download it from the editor or Exports. If you make another edit, export the new version before downloading that updated result.

Why does my clip have a watermark?

Free-plan export requests include directorscut.io. Available paid plans explain their branding at checkout. An existing export keeps its original branding; changing your plan does not modify a file that has already been created.

What if processing fails?

Read the project’s message and use its retry option when available. Source minutes count once when AI processing begins, including a failed attempt; retrying that same failed job does not count them again. Edits, re-renders and downloads are included; short queue and repeat-render limits apply.

Can I publish directly to a channel?

Channel connections are in testing. Once available for your account, open Channels to connect YouTube or an Instagram Business or Creator account. Choose Post to social beside a finished clip, select an account, then choose Review post and Confirm & post. YouTube also asks for visibility, audience and altered-content details; public uploads remain unavailable until YouTube approves the integration. Nothing is posted when you only connect a channel.

What if publishing is interrupted?

Check Publication status before sending again. DirectorsCut checks the original upload after an interruption. If Retry appears, it resumes that request; if Check publication appears, check the channel first because the post may already exist.

Does deleting a project remove a social post?

No. Deleting a DirectorsCut project or disconnecting a channel does not delete videos already sent to that platform. Manage those posts on YouTube or Instagram.

Your files and account

Are my recordings public?

Your projects and exports are accessible through your signed-in account. DirectorsCut does not automatically publish your footage or add it to a public gallery.

How long are projects kept?

New Free projects are kept for 48 hours. Check your account or upload form for your current plan’s retention period. Existing projects keep their recorded expiry, including after a plan change. Download anything you want to keep before the expiry shown on the project. Deleting a project removes access immediately and queues its files for background removal.

How do I close my account?

Open Account & billing and review account deletion. The app checks whether self-service deletion is available before asking for your password and confirmation. Billing-linked or shared accounts need a separate closure process; follow the explanation shown in your account.

Account deletion removes access and schedules stored files for cleanup. It does not remove files you downloaded, browser copies on another device, or every backup and service-provider record immediately.
